Any hope at all I had of getting any rest has disappeared in a haze of computer problems, none of them my own.
I drove to Comanche with L and M yesterday morning early, and spent most of yesterday and today doing enough salvage on Mother’s previous computer, after a Trojan attack, to recover and transfer her user data (YEARS of irreplaceable local history work) from it to her new Hyphenated Computers portable, and setting up a backup system for the portable. On the slightly brighter side, I came home with TWO very early Elizabeth Enrights in hard cover (eeeeeeeee! I got The Sea Is All Around! eeeeeeeee!), a quaint juvenile title about John Newbery (English printer and bookseller of the early eighteenth century; the Newbery children’s book awards are named in his honor) and a handful of mid-Fifties LPs that would be hard to find, and maybe pricey too.
Then tomorrow I get to spend the day at the Land of Færie, rebuilding the back office machine to get rid of a software problem that keeps making the mouse cursor disappear intermittently. That’ll be another full and stressful day for certain.
And Tuesday I get to go back to the Empire, to work the last part of thirteen-days-without-a-break. And that’s depressing.
